I have been working on the road the past 7 years traveling from pipeline to pipeline drawing land acquisition plats, alignment sheets, proces.

Hands on w/ Trimble Business Center: a surprisingly good point cloud tool for survey 2. By importing the.job file, the data comes in referenced to the survey control, and no registration is needed. I did try using the cloud-to-cloud registration function with data from a Leica C10. Interestingly, it worked pretty well (assuming sufficient.

Yesterday we had a demo of Trimble Realworks from Jason Hayes, scanning product manager.I was pretty impressed with the registration process, it was nice to see small things like support for native Faro/ Z&F/ Riegl scans, Batch PTX/E57 export, Multiple 3D model import/export format capability.support for a 3D connexion mouse. Things that seem to have been placed on the backburner for Leica Cyclone. Is anyone on the forum using Realworks for projects containing 300-400 scans?Would you recommend it?Regards,Mike.

Hi MikeI've used Realworks on and off for several years, we're currently using it with a Trimble FX and I'm pretty happy with the combination. We mainly use it for target based registrations, the automatic abstraction of spheres and chequerboards is reliable and generally requires very little intervention on our part. We've also had some success with the automatic C2C option, but more often find we have to run the manual C2C (picking a few common points) first to get the scans close initially.I've not had to try running projects with 100's of scans, 20-30 would probably be our max, but Realworks copes with that.As you've identified, there is a pretty good range of data import and export options - it would be nice to see.rcs as well, but don't think Realworks is alone in not offering that.Hope that helps, feel free to give me a shout if you have more questions.RegardsTony.

Hi MikeI had a quick play with v9 recently and it definitely has some nice features. However, couple things I noticed and maybe worth clarifying. If you use different diam spheres, I think you need to run the automatic detection a couple of times because you can only enter 1 diam in the menu that it searches for at a time. Obviously this doubles the amount of initial processing time, unless you have the same diameter spheres or only use B&W'sI suspect the initial import is geared towards Trimbles scan format. When you import fls files or whatever other format, it's doing some converting on top of the importing, which maybe slower then if it was Trimbles own scan format. For a bog standard registration and getting the project onto control it feels pretty good but I have not had a chance to see how user friendly it is when you are doing more complex registrations.Once past the registration phase there are some nice work flows for cleaning up data etc. I have done some simple meshing and generating contours of a quarry and that works quite well but I haven't really done much more then that. There are a couple YouTube clips showing some useful functions but because the user base isn't that big (I'm Guessing) that's all you get, a couple clips. So finding online how to' is very limited.Gregg. I have been using Trimble scanners and Realworks for about 10 years now.

We don't do a lot of scanning, so there are times I don't use the scanner or Realworks for months. Most of our surveys are for engineering or DOT work. We finally updated our Trimble GX scanner to a TX8 last week. This scanner is so much faster and easier to use. The old GX had power cables and WIFI cables to a router, scan time was about an hour a set up, Big PIA.

The survey work flow was great, since most of our projects we lay the control network out first and just set up over know points and scan. The TX8 has a much different work flow. Just set up and scan. I am having a tough time trying to get my scan data georeferenced. Our dealer is very slow to help.

So I am looking for any input from other users. HiI am using Realworks manly for automated registration. I have used it on projects up to 600 scan, however I have spilt it in different areas with one area having about 250 scan. In this project we had to scan all ceiling space and I used the floor scanning to register every thing together.Depending on set ups and environment I get between 75% to 100% of the scans registered in the first run using automated plan registration. There are some rules how to scan in the field to get a better out come from the automated registration. What is still missing is the combination of cloud registration with targets like in cyclone there you turn on of things.

Adding a scan using no targets will add it to the parent scan you choose but not include other scans. From my experience using Scene, Cyclone and Realworks, Realworks has the best solution for automated registration. However for large jobs the accuracy of the final result I was stating with about +-20mm (I have seen same wall up to 15mm apart in the final registration (150 to 250 scans)). In small jobs it was every time better than 5mm to conventional survey control.I have done a lot of testing between Realworks and Cyclone. Example from last week to see how much we can use the C10 for internal scans, I did a office scan with the C10 1min45sec scans about 15scans in 30min, then download into cyclone and using the automated registration and cyclone didn't gave me full registration. I exported E57 into Realworks and the result was full registered with no gross errors - all this import export registration result in 1hr.Realworks is fast for import export compare to cyclone the only downside for now is missing possibility of combination in the registration like in cyclone. The price from Realworks is quite high and for a business to have both cyclone and realworks is not economical. One of my friends is a Realworks expert if you have some question I can forward you his contacts just PM me.Andrej.

Hello Gentlemen,We are selling and supporting RW and I've started using RW for a few months.I am glad to find some users finally. I've had experience with riScan before. The target-based registration works well, if you follow some rules and good habits on site. Enough spheres, enough points on the spheres, well-organised shperes, etc.

The biggest amount was 100 scanstations for me. I think you have to check all of them manually after registration-I had a bad experience. The software recognised balls on an advertisement and did some errors (it was a flag with an AD and it was moving).Anyway, for smaller areas (10-20 scanstations) I think it is extremely fast and easy. Honestly I feel a little lack of the manuality becouse if something goes wrong, it is quite blind to handle a problem, but for inside measurements, the cloud-to-cloud works well.I was trying over the online videos but I have more experience with them now. I started using the modeling features but I also searching for some ideas to create a good base model (with the cheapest BASE license) for further third-party users.

I need to mention we see the key in RW modeling in the construction site-area, for making fast reference models for clash detection. For deep detailed models you need other softwares.I don't have much experience with georeferencing, but making connection with sphere-centers and total station measurements has to be a fast and efficient solution, it is just a matrix-transformation.
